Black Mountain Energy Storage plans to build an energy storage facility in Kerr County, and is seeking a tax break from the county.

Another battery energy storage facility could be heading for the Hill Country , drawing opposition from residents and county officials. The Kerr County Commissioner 's Court received a presentation Monday from Black Mountain Energy Storage , which is seeking a tax abatement for a proposed facility. Executives with Black Mountain Energy Storage were questioned by county commissioners and residents over their plans. It wasn't immediately clear how a large a tax break the company was seeking.

There are times when there is “more electricity on the grid than there needs to be,” Hughes said. An energy storage system can put the power back on the grid during peak demand times, like when most people arrive home from work.

'You are not welcome here,' Kerr County resident Carrie Schmerbeck told Black Mountain representatives. 'And we will fight.'
