You may not know it, but the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is releasing thousands of fish into the waterways throughout the state.
Each year, the department holds two trout stockings as part of a program that allows anglers to catch up to five trout a day.Adam Eshleman, a Maryland DNR Central Fisheries Biologist, said the placement of where the fish are dumped is important. “The fish are loaded into buckets and spread out into the best habitat along the creek," Eshleman said. "We usually try to spread the fish out so all the fish aren’t crowded in one hole. That allows the more anglers to enjoy the resource.”“The put and take program really is a great resource that the department provides to anglers," Eshleman said.
Despite the competition and seriousness of the sport, Craig said fishing is always a good, relaxing time. “You think about, you know, where you are in life. How much longer you’re going to be around and every day is special, you know? And like I said, catching a fish always helps.”
