Maryland suffered its third consecutive loss Saturday when it fell to Northwestern, 33-27.
EVANSTON, Ill. — Coming off an open weekend during which a full complement of ailing starters was able to heal and rejoin the lineup, the Maryland football team continued in a tailspin nonetheless with a 33-27 loss to Northwestern on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field.
“They outplayed us, they outhustled us, they outhit us, and when that happens, you’ve got to look at everything, including myself and all the way down the roster,” Terrapins Coach Michael Locksley said. “Anyone who made this trip played a part in what happened today, and it’s really disappointing.
Tagovailoa found Jones for an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 33-27 with 3:42 to play, but after Maryland’s defense forced a quick three-and-out, Azema’s interception prevented the Terrapins from scoring again. A back-and-forth first quarter ended with the score tied at 14 after Terrapins safety Tarheeb Still got beat in the back of the end zone, allowing wide receiver Bryce Kirtz plenty of room to secure a 23-yard scoring reception from Sullivan on a slant. Still, a senior safety, was another starter back in the secondary, joining senior cornerback Dante Trader Jr.
