Andrew Scott is stepping into the role of Tom Ripley. The Irish actor revealed that to him, Ripley is an anti-hero, not a villain.

Anthony Minghella previously adapted Highsmith’s novel in 1999 for The Talented Mr. Ripley. The Oscar-nominated film starred Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, Gwyneth Paltrow as Marge Sherwood, and Jude Law as Dickie Greenleaf.. Executive producers include Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy, and Philipp Keel of Diogenes. Scott will serve as a producer on Ripley.

New Character Posters Released for TV Adaptation of 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'has unveiled new character posters for the TV adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley. Starring Andrew Scott as the title character Tom Ripley, the newly released character posters also highlight the “talented” cast of the forthcoming eight-episode series, including Pasquale Esposito, Margherita Buy, John Malkovich, and more. Set to hit the streaming service on April 4, Ripley will center on the titular grifter and his involvement in fraud and deceit in 1960s New York. “In the series, Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son Dickie Greenleaf to return home. Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder. Meanwhile, Marge Sherwood, an American living in Italy, suspects darker motives underlie Tom’s affability,” the synopsis reads.
