“In the series, Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son Dickie Greenleaf to return home. Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder. Meanwhile, Marge Sherwood, an American living in Italy, suspects darker motives underlie Tom’s affability,” the synopsis reads.
This won’t be the first time Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley novel has been brought to life, with the Anthony Minghella-helmed movie of the same name having debuted to critical acclaim back in 1999. The film starred Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cate Blanchett.. In addition to writing and directing, Zaillian also served as one of the series’ executive producers alongside Garrett Basch, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy, Philipp Keel, and Charlie Corwin.
