After a 12-month search for Gillon McLachlan's replacement, the AFL have now informed club executives that Andrew Dillon will become the organisation's new boss.
After a 12-month search for a replacement for Gillon McLachlan the AFL informed club executives of the decision via a group phone call at about 8:30am on Monday.
"Football has been a defining part of my life and it is a privilege to be able to lead the industry in ensuring our game remains relevant, accessible and welcoming to all Australians," he said in a statement. In 2017 Dillon added the responsibility of game development to his portfolio and then in 2021 he became the executive general manager of football operations in addition to his role as general counsel. "Andrew is a well-known and highly respected leader and has great support across the industry for his calm, considered and collaborative approach. To do this role, you need a genuine love for the game and Andrew has a massive love and care for the game that he has demonstrated over his 23 years at the AFL.
He had been convinced to stay on as boss by Mr Goyder to help guide the organisation through several issues including the $4.5 billion broadcast deal with Seven and Foxtel.
