“The big driver with heavy snow years is they move out of that backcountry because it is so hard for them to get around, they burn so many calories. And remember, a step for moose in winter is a step closer to death,” Stantorf said. Stantorf said Fish and Game has gotten fewer reports of injured moose this winter, including moose hit by cars.
