ANCHORAGE , Alaska - An Anchorage grand jury indicted a 36-year-old man Tuesday on multiple murder charge s in connection with the deaths of a man and a woman in downtown Anchorage earlier this month, according to the Alaska Department of Law.

Oct. 17 shootingsThe indictment follows Jackson’s arrest a day after the shooting, which Anchorage police described as two homicides that occurred within moments of each other that evening. According to charging documents, officers responding to reports of gunfire at about 8:20 p.m. and found both victims with gunshot wounds to the head in an alcove near the Red Cross building. Surveillance video from a nearby apartment captured a man and woman arguing with a male suspect carrying a large chest-mounted speaker and riding and electric bike. The footage allegedly shows the man loading a handgun magazine, shooting the woman twice at close range, reloading the gun, then shooting her in the head. The footage shows him fatally shooting the man moments later. Investigators located Jackson after tracking an electric scooter seen leaving the scene and reviewing security footage from the Travel Inn, where he worked and lived. The videos, according to charging documents, returning to his room minutes after the shooting. Police later found the e-bike, and .45-caliber ammunition consistent with the casings recovered at the scene, according to the documents. Charging documents say the e-bike had recently been spray painted. Jackson had paint on his hands the same color of the bike, Officials have not publicly identified the victims, but charging documents indicate they were in a dating relationship. “I want to thank our Investigative Support Unit, Detectives, and patrol for their work to identify and apprehend the suspect,” Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case said in a press release after the shooting. “Their swift actions and commitment reflect APD’s continued dedication to keeping our community safe.” Jackson’s bail is set at $500,000 cash performance and $500,000 cash appearance for a total bail of $1 million.
