The newly elected treasurer of the ANC in Mpumalanga, Mandla Msibi, has been asked to step aside barely two days after being endorsed for the position.
Msibi faces charges of murder and attempted murder emanating from a shooting incident at a Mbombela eatery in August last year in which two people died. Shortly after being charged by the National Prosecuting Authority , Msibi was removed from his position as MEC of agriculture.
“We note your election as provincial treasurer at the provincial conference of the ANC Mpumalanga Province held on 1-3 April 2022. We further note that you have been charged with murder, and that you have previously stepped aside from your duties as member of the provincial executive committee. President Cyril Ramaphosa had at the weekend expressed concern at Msibi’s nomination and urged delegates to reflect on their decision.
