When he’s not working with the Lyric Opera of Chicago or The Metropolitan Opera director and choreographer Austin McCormick is creating alluring productions with his Company XIV.
In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Alice is magically transported down the rabbit hole into the middle of a fairy tale. Experiencing Company XIV’s baroque burlesque show Queen of Hearts is also like entering a fairy tale.As novelist Marie Corelli wrote, “Let me be mad, then, by all means! mad with the madness of Absinthe, the wildest, most luxurious madness in the world!”. Picture baroque dance, opera, circus, burlesque and striptease all in one imagination-stretching decadent show.
Company XIV’s mission is is to reimagine classical ballet and fairytales for contemporary audiences in fresh and exciting ways. “It allows me to tap into our sexy nightlife sensibilities while also taping into childlike wonder,” says McCormick who remains mum about what’s next for the company. “I have SOOOOO many ideas for future creations but I’m sworn to secrecy.”Austin McCormick:
