Congress' decision to make senior dependents ineligible for a stimulus check has been a source of frustration for family members and others tasked with caring for an elderly adult.
WASHINGTON – Caring for a mother-in-law coping with Alzheimer’s is the hardest thing George Zabala has ever done.Natalie Cowgill, 71, has been living with Zabala and his wife, Rita, for the past three years as her condition worsened.
“A lot of times when people think about caregiving or dependent care, they initially think children and don’t always extend that same kind of thinking to older dependents in the household,” said David Certner, legislative policy counsel for the AARP. “We think that’s a mistake because it’s just as important to be able to provide for the caregivers of those dependents as well.”
On top of that, “you’re worried about older persons in the household who obviously are much more at risk for coronavirus,” Certner said.
