The union representing American Airlines pilots is threatening to take its perspective on the airline's struggles to stakeholders if its board won't meet.

pilots is threatening to take criticisms of senior management to stakeholders if the carrier's board of directors refuses to meet with them over lagging financial results that have created a gap between the airline and competitors United Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

“Over the past year, we waited to see the results of their plan," Allied Pilots Association vice president Chris Torres, a captain at the airline, said in a video posted to social media on Sunday. Candidly, it’s been more of the same.” Torres said the union requested to meet with the airline’s board to “share our perspective and concerns, provide operational insight, discuss the erosion of culture, and understand their vision for this airline.”American posted net income of $99 million and full-year results of $111 million . But during a previous earnings call in January, American executives projected confidence for 2026, saying that things like an elevated customer experience, maximizing its network and fleet and advancing sales would begin to deliver results this year.“This airline has 130,000 employees ready to win and 16,000 pilots who want to be proud to work for American Airlines," said Torres."American has the aircraft and the products to make it happen and a leading loyalty program. But after years of hearing about synergies, a young efficient fleet and a vision to thrive forever, American only managed a meager $100 million profit this last year." American is expected to report its earnings for the first quarter of 2026 at the end of April. APA President Nick Silva, a first officer at American, said the union expects excuses about “oil prices and a so-called labor cost disadvantage of $1 billion per year."The lackluster results sparked the ire of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the union that represents American Airlines flight attendants. The union’s board of directorsIt was the first time the union has taken such an action against a sitting chief executive in the union’s nearly 50-year history. The APA also weighed a possible vote of no confidence, but instead opted to request a meeting with the board of directors, which Isom sits on as CEO. “The finances are still weak, the culture is being obliterated and they expect you to lean forward for an operation without providing a single shred of accountability for themselves,” said Silva. “We still await a response from the American board. But if they choose not to hear this message directly, we will begin to take it to all American Airlines stakeholders. The message is simple: our company must do better no matter who is running it.”11-year-old arrested, accused of shooting another child at Kaufman County school playground
