A technical issue caused a ground stop for American Airlines flights nationwide on Christmas Eve, disrupting travel plans for thousands of passengers.

A systemwide 'technical issue' disrupted American Airlines flights early Tuesday morning during one of the year's busiest travel times. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for American flights nationwide around 6 a.m. CST, causing some flyers to become frustrated. Travellers across the country with American Airlines flights were delayed by one hour after the FAA issued a ground stop on Christmas Eve morning.

“Real nervous that the flight was delayed on Christmas or Christmas Eve and not being able to get to family, which I only see every year, year and a half,' said Trevor Thompson, an Austin-Bergstrom International Airport American Airlines passenger. “I was a little apprehensive because we've got Broadway tickets, we've got a hotel line up, we've got a Christmas Eve dinner booked,' said Audrey Webb, whose connecting flight was delayed. In a statement, the airline said, 'A vendor technology issue briefly affected flights this morning. That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this morning. It’s all hands on deck.” The airline responded to people’s frustrations about the disruption in their holiday travel on social media, saying they are working to get people in the air soon.'It was refreshing to hear that it wasn't an issue anymore,' said Trevor Thompson. 'But you never know what's going to go on during the holiday season.' Travelers nationwide are relieved to hopefully make their connecting flights and get to their destinations on time. 'We'll just make sure we have fun wherever we end up,' said American Airlines passenger Mike Mcnulty. 'We're on vacation, so it's gonna be a nice time no matter what.
