American Airlines experienced a technical issue that led to a ground stop for all flights on Christmas Eve. The issue was resolved within an hour, but travelers should expect potential delays due to construction at JFK airport.

American Airlines has lifted the ground stop it issued for all its flights on Tuesday morning — Christmas Eve — according to alerts from the Federal Aviation Administration. American said on X it was experiencing a technical issue with all its flights around 6:30 a.m. 'Your safety is our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we'll have you safely on your way to your destination,' it wrote. The ground stop was lifted a little more than an hour later.

Alerts from the FAA and notices from American haven't yet explained the nature of the problem. People flying for Christmas should also prepare for potential delays due to construction at JFK airport. The Port Authority said it anticipates a record 13.8 million travelers at its airports and crossings from Dec. 21 through Jan. 2, with about 5.2 million passengers headed through JFK, Newark, LaGuardia and Stewart airports. Flight status notices at NYC-area airports continued to show delays for several American Airlines flights mid-morning
