The flight tragically crashed on January 30th, 2023 near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after colliding with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, resulting in the loss of all 7 people on board.

Elder was a wife and mother of two children, ages 13 and 4, and her brother, Dajour Brown, described her as a 'sweetest human' who was passionate about her family and flying. A classmate from Elder's flight attendant training in Charlotte, North Carolina, shared that she was 'very dedicated to being a flight attendant' and 'loved her family tremendously.' The classmate added that Elder was 'very bright, very smart,' and an entrepreneur, with becoming a flight attendant being one of her dreams. Elder's friend, Rebecca Cavaliere, expressed her devastation on Facebook, stating that 'flying will never be the same for me again' after the tragic loss.The crash also claimed the lives of fourteen figure skaters, a number of parents and students from Fairfax Public Schools in Virginia, four union members, and three U.S. Army soldiers. Among the victims was 28-year-old pilot Sam Lilley, who was engaged to be married in the fall of 2025. His father, Timothy Lilley, shared his heartbreak in an emotional post, writing that 'it hurts so bad I can't even cry myself to sleep.'
