What many might not be aware of is that the new Clinical Response Model saw heart attacks and strokes moved to category 2

Northern Ireland's Ambulance Service made 'radical' changes to the way they deal with 999 calls in 2019, bringing the way they operate into line with the rest of the UK.

NIAS said at the time changing to a more targeted system would help them get to the most serious calls first with their eight-minute response target for an urgent ambulance being failed consistently.. "Category 1 is reserved for those patients with immediately-life threatening conditions eg cardiac arrest/those who have collapsed and stopped breathing. Category 2 calls refers to emergency conditions which will be allocated an immediate blue-light response, and includes patients suffering acute strokes, heart attacks, significant breathing problems and serious trauma."
