Amazon is planning an AirPods 2 rival with better sound, according to a report

My guess is that means September if Amazon follows its pattern of the last two years with a bumper announcement event in Seattle. As always with Amazon Alexa-enabled products, one of the main benefits is that users can order products from Amazon easily, plus ask Alexa the weather or, of course, command her to tell you a joke.
Apple AirPods, the new version with an optional new case. It has an LED to show it's wireless-chargeable.Of course, not having its own smartphone with which to pair is an obstacle which Apple doesn’t have. Still, the Alexa app is available on Android and Apple phones, so it’s far from insuperable.
