Thousands of sorority sisters are in the Port City this weekend for the South Eastern Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Conference.
MOBILE, Ala. -
Visit Mobile is hosting the ladies for the 92nd AKA Conference. More than 6,000 sorority sisters will be in Mobile today through Sunday. In addition to community service projects, participants will attend workshops and various events designed to inform, educate and complement their membership in the 115-year-old sorority.
To kick things off, the group is giving back in a big way — donating about 10,000 items to the Africatown Community Food Bank. Dr. Tracey Morant Adams, South Eastern Regional director of AKA Corp., said, “When Alpha Kappa Alpha convenes, our members want to come and leave an impact, and so we are in mobile this time, we have collected volunteer donations from our members.”
The South Eastern Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is composed of three states: Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. Within the region, there are about 116 undergraduate and graduate chapters serving more than 14,000 members.
