In England and Wales there are two bank holidays left this calendar year, those for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. When a bank holiday occasion falls on a weekend a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday, to ensure workers get an extra day off.This year Christmas Day falls on a Sunday so as well as Boxing Day, Monday December 26, being a bank holiday one will also be held on Tuesday, December 27 as a substitute for Christmas Day.
Easter is this year being celebrated in early April with, as is tradition, both Good Friday and Easter Monday, on April 7 and April 10 repsectively, being bank holidays, There is also the possibility of an extra bank holiday for the coronation of King Charles III. Reports have suggested that this could take place on Saturday, June 3 and that it would be the centerpiece of several days of celebration to mark the beginning of the new monarch's reign.
