PETALING JAYA: The All-England tournament will take place as scheduled in Birmingham from March 11-15, after advice from the British government and the publication of its Coronavirus Action Plan.

The Action Plan includes the UK government’s four-stage strategy to combat the deadly Covid-19 – contain, delay, research and mitigate – and they are currently focusing on the first stage .

Many sporting events have fallen victim to the disease, including Italian football matches and the German Open badminton tournament that was supposed to have started on Tuesday. The Olympic qualification period ends on April 31 and some shuttlers like India’s Saina Nehwal and Malaysia’s mixed doubles’ shuttler Shevon Lai Jemie have called on the Badminton World Federation to extend the qualification deadline in light of the outbreak.
