Director Álvarez discusses the possibility of continuing the *Alien: Romulus* story, emphasizing his desire for a strong narrative and his excitement about exploring uncharted territory within the *Alien* franchise.
20th Century Studios unveiled the science fiction horror film *Alien: Romulus * in United States theaters in August 2024. Directed by Álvarez, the movie is set between the events of Ridley Scott’s *Alien* and James Cameron’s *Aliens*. While a direct sequel to *Alien: Romulus * has not been officially greenlit, Álvarez has expressed interest in continuing the story, potentially with the surviving characters from the 2024 film.
20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell also noted late last year that ideas for an *Alien: Romulus* sequel are still being developed. \Álvarez, collaborating with co-writer and frequent partner Sayagues, stated, “and I are working on that right now. We’re excited about where it can go. We’ve almost checked all of the boxes of things that I want to see and brought back a lot of the things I hadn’t seen in a while. Wherever we go now, we can go into uncharted waters.” He added, “I think it’ll be so exciting to go with characters you know from this movie, to a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been before, and to discover things that you’ve never seen before.” \Álvarez emphasized that he doesn’t want to create an *Alien: Romulus* sequel solely based on financial success. He and Sayagues are actively searching for a compelling story that would justify a continuation. “The mistake usually with sequels is to make them because you can, and because of the success of *Romulus*, we definitely can make a sequel,” he said. “But I wouldn’t do it unless we have a really good idea for it, something that’s worthy of the title.
