A big question after Alien: Earth's finale, surrounding the fate of Wendy and the Lost Boys, has already been answered. The ending of Alien: Earth season 1 answered several mysteries, all while raising more.

One such answer, for instance, was confirmation of what the different alien creatures of Alien: Earth do, from the plant monster to the acidic flies. Most of the lingering questions, though, came in the form of Wendy and the Lost Boys' new power dynamic. Whether it's how Alien: Earth has changed the Xenomorphs through Wendy's character or what is next for the crew with Weyland-Yutani still determined to capture the alien specimens, the show has left many plot threads unresolved. Alien: Earth season 2's story, should it be greenlit, is expected to answer these mysteries. However, perhaps the biggest query about the future of Wendy and the Lost Boys has already been addressed by the wider Alien franchise. None Of The Alien Movies Set After Alien: Earth References Hybrids Wendy's origin in Alien: Earth introduced the concept of Hybrids to the Alien franchise. Previously, most artificial bodies shown in the franchise were Synthetics, human-looking droids with an AI consciousness. Alien: Earth took this one step further, introducing the idea of implanting human consciousness, specifically those from terminally ill children, into advanced synthetic bodies. This concept was an entirely new creation for Alien: Earth. The show is set a few years before Alien and even longer before Alien: Romulus, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection in the Alien timeline. None of these movies references the concept of Hybrids, potentially hinting at exactly what the future holds for Wendy and the other Lost Boys. Alien: Earth's Hybrids Are Doomed To Be A Failed Project This indicates that the Hybrids from Alien: Earth will never truly succeed. Boy Kavalier created the Hybrids with a main goal: stopping the overreliance on, and eventual takeover of, artificially intelligent Synthetics. Kavalier hoped that the Hybrids would become the norm, allowing humans to live in control well into the future, only with the added benefit of having a synthetic body. Chief among these benefits is immortality, allowing human minds to persevere even when their bodies usually would not. Also, Wendy and the other Hybrids are stronger, faster, and more intelligent than regular humans, with Wendy even having extra abilities like communicating with Xenomorphs and hacking anything digital. This is Boy Kavalier's goal for the rest of humanity in Alien: Earth, but it seems as though the Hybrid project will fail somehow. With no other Alien installment mentioning Hybrids, something must seemingly happen that puts an end to the fledgling project completely. If Hybrids became as widespread and accessible as Boy Kavalier intended, other Alien movies would surely have mentioned them. However, given how Alien: Earth fits into the timeline, it would need to drastically alter the lore and canon of the franchise should the Hybrids become anything other than a project doomed to fail. Even If Alien: Earth Retcons The Timeline, The Hybrids Can't Succeed Of course, one way in which Alien: Earth could expand on its concept of Hybrids is by retconning the Alien timeline drastically. As of Alien: Earth season 1's ending, the show has yet to acknowledge wider Alien installments like Prometheus and Covenant. Much like the Halloween and Terminator franchises, it seems as though Alien: Earth is only treating Alien and Aliens as canon, at least for now. Even if this remains the case, Alien: Earth's potential Hybrid expansion would cause cracks in the canon with Alien and Aliens. The latter film, for example, is set almost 60 years after Alien: Earth, yet there is no sign of Hybrids. Instead, a Synthetic named Bishop remains prominent in space exploration, something Kavalier intended for Hybrids. It could be explained that Kavalier's company, Prodigy, continued working on Hybrids in secret for decades after Alien: Earth, explaining why a Hyperdyne Synth was in Aliens. Still, Weyland-Yutani and other Synthetics are very much active well beyond Alien: Earth, again implying that the Hybrid project cannot succeed for much longer after the show. If Alien: Earth does treat further Alien sequels as canon, even more holes are poked in the possibility of Hybrids becoming commonplace. Alien: Resurrection features an advanced version of Synthetics, though they are still Synthetics and not Hybrids, and that film is set over 250 years after Alien: Earth. All of this just further proves how Alien: Earth's Hybrids are doomed to fail. This is not to say that Wendy and the Lost Boys will be defunct soon, though, as they are immortal just as Boy Kavalier intended. That said, Alien: Earth's ending has Wendy insisting that they will rule, which, based on Alien and Aliens, does not come to pass. This must mean that Wendy and the Lost Boys are destroyed or contained somehow before the events of other installments in the Alien franchise. Beyond that, it means that Boy Kavalier and Prodigy did not succeed in making Hybrids as widespread as they intended. Unless Alien: Earth makes some major franchise retcons, Wendy, the Lost Boys, and the Hybrids' broader future seems set to end soon. 173 8.7/10 8/10 Alien: Earth 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-MA Drama Horror Science Fiction Thriller Release Date August 12, 2025 Network FX, Hulu Directors Dana Gonzales, Ugla Hauksdóttir, Noah Hawley Writers Bob DeLaurentis 10 Images Close Cast See All
