One of the world's best has some advice for Anchorage's skiers as the city embraces its first major snowfall of the season.

ANCHORAGE , Alaska - As skiers lock into tracks around Anchorage , they can expect some help from an all-time great.

“The great thing about cross country skiing is you can get out on just a few inches of snow and enjoy it,” said Randall, NSAA’s executive director for the past three years.Randall said the NSAA team watched skiers take in the new powder at Kincaid and Hillside Park in Anchorage, as well as Beach Lake in Chugiak.

“Even if there is good snow coverage, sometimes that first stroke can give way a little bit. It’s always good to be aware that there might be some rocks or various things.”“When you work behind the scenes, there’s a lot of action,” she said. “Skiing has been a part of my life from my earliest memories. I just can’t help but feel giddy this time of year and I’m so proud of our team for rallying quickly and getting out and packing it down so that we can keep that joy going for the city.

According to the Anchorage School District, cross country ski practice begins Wednesday for several high school programs.
