The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) secured significant funding for military construction projects in Alaska, totaling over $723 million. Republican Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski supported the bill in the Senate, while Democrat Representative Mary Peltola endorsed it in the House.

The NDAA also approved $120 million to support the family housing facilities at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. In the request, thethe funding is intended to “ensure adequate funding available for sustainment needs units, repairs, etc.) and reinvestment needs .”One project approved for Eielson Air Force is a new Fuel Operations & Lab Facility for $14 million.
Sullivan and Murkowski also worked to include a provision in the NDAA to add 649 new Active Guard Reserve Authorizations nationwide.There will be a 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted service members and a 4.5% basic pay increase for all other service members. The Basic Needs Allowance was also raised, allowing a service member’s income up to 200% of the poverty level for their family size, total household income and location.
For families and spouses, there have been several additions that will provide support. The bill extends the Defense Department’s authority to fill open civilian positions with qualified military spouses and help those transfer professional licenses between states more easily.
