Nearly 100 pilots picketed at Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport on Friday over contract negotiations with Alaska Airlines. Twelve Alaska Airlines flights had been canceled in Anchorage as of Friday afternoon.

A union spokesperson said none of the pilots on the Anchorage picket line were scheduled to work Friday.

“That’s a significant number for the size of Alaska Airlines,” he said. “We think that we need to fix the scheduling flexibility and job security issues.” “We were not able to capture those during that bargaining process,” he said. “So it feels like we’re about a decade behind in those rules.”Friday that they respect the pilots’ right to picket and recognize the importance of securing a new contract.
