The affirmative vote Tuesday was nearly unanimous, with all 7 representatives from Alabama voting ‘yes.’

) - Alabama’s U.S. lawmakers are letting their thoughts be known after taking part in a successful vote on Tuesday to force the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files. The affirmative vote Tuesday was nearly unanimous, with all 7 representatives from Alabama voting ‘yes.

’ Shortly before the vote, Rep. Terri Sewell posted a video of herself captioned “On my way to vote ‘YES’ on releasing the Epstein files!”about his choice to vote in favor of releasing the files, and praising Trump’s choice to do so: “Today, I voted to released the Epstein Files to build on the transparency that President Trump’s Department of Justice and House Oversight Committee Republicans are already working to ensure in their investigation. I applaud President Trump for supporting the release of these files and will continue working with his administration to get answers for the American people while also protecting innocent victims. “President Trump has always led the charge to fight weaponized government that protects elites, and any suggestion otherwise is a lie meant to distract and divide Republicans as we fight to save America by enacting his agenda.”, expressing his desire to bring justice in the unresolved case: “The release of these documents, along with the Oversight Committee’s thorough investigation, bring us closer to providing the victims of Jeffery Epstein with the justice they deserve. I hope that these documents will provide the American people with answers and result in those that committed wrongdoing being held accountable.”“Today I voted to release the Epstein files. I have long advocated for transparency regarding the heinous actions of Jeffrey Epstein. I hope that the documents that are released – in addition to those already released through the House Oversight Committee’s investigation – will deliver justice and transparency for the American people and, most importantly, the survivors of Epstein’s horrific crimes. Now, I urge the Democrats to stop using victims as political pawns and get back to work with us for the American people."Senator Katie Britt’s office released a statement shortly after expressing gratitude to the Senate for coming together to vote unanimously: “I’m grateful to see the Senate unanimously pass the House bill to release the Epstein Files tonight. I’ve been a longtime supporter of releasing the files and previously supported an amendment in the Senate Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Act requiring the Attorney General to submit a full report and findings to Congress. Next stop: President Trump’s desk, where he will sign the bill into law. “Let’s be clear—for Democrats, this was never about the victims. Under Joe Biden, Democrats did nothing to facilitate the release of these files, while Republicans have been calling for the release for years. And just last week, they blocked a motion for unanimous consent to release these files, once again, putting politics over people. Jeffrey Epstein was a sick and twisted pedophile who is responsible for irreparable harm to countless victims—full stop. Today’s passage in both chambers of Congress was a historic step to ensuring justice for Epstein’s victims and transparency for the American people.”Not reading this story on the WSFA News App?
