Rev. Daryl Roberts pushed hard for Barnabas, but ultimately those plans failed.
Barnabas founder Rev. Darryl Roberts pushed for the school and wonders why the Alabama Public Charter School Commission turned it down on Monday.
Barnabas was proposed two years ago, but things have changed since then. The church that would have backed the school, Greater Beulah Baptist Church, backed out. Roberts would then leave the church amid a legal dispute with leadership.“We are not giving up, we are not throwing in the towel. We are excited about this opportunity. This has given us the opportunity to regroup at Barnabas School of Leadership. This will expand our opportunities,” Roberts said.
“Initially, the way it was instigated, the entire process that was handled initially was not completely open to the public. We were not privy to reasons why the school was formed,” Dr. Dennis Coe, Dothan City Schools superintendent, said.
