Court documents state that Tarrant Police Chief Wendell Major escorted the councilman to his car after a"long and turbulent council meeting." Court documents state that Newton then said that he could have sex with the councilman's wife but not get her pregnant.Bryant's car was taken to an impound lot by a tow truck.
The Tarrant Police Department released video showing Bryant striking Newton one time in a parking lot following a council meeting, which the report describes as contentious. "I tolerate Tommy Bryant’s ignorant remarks and comments at our council meetings because as mayor I understand it’s my duty to make sure the city functions as efficiently and effectively as possible for all people," Newton said."I refuse to tolerate and subject myself to Councilor Bryant’s ignorance and hatred in private.
