Major turned to leave, and Bryant told him to have a good evening. Major said, “Same to you, sir, and be careful.” Bryant was then informed he was under arrest and taken first to the city jail, and then the Jefferson County Jail.The major was checked out by paramedics in the parking lot.Bryant was ordered by a judge to have no contact with Newton which includes in-person contact, phone calls and emails.Bryant was arrested again Thursday when authorities said he took his car without paying the towing company roughly $160. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 11:22 a.m.
Newton was acquitted earlier this year in that case, as well as a charge of misdemeanor assault against the city’s former police chief. Since he was sworn in, Newton has been met with resistance from a majority of the city council and some department heads.
