What is your idea of a healthy diet, and how has it changed as you grow older? originally appeared onAs I have grown older, my perspective on what constitutes a healthy diet has evolved significantly. In my younger years, I primarily focused on convenience and taste, often opting for fast food and quick meals that fit into my busy startup and entrepreneur lifestyle. The focus was on satisfying hunger quickly rather than on the nutritional value of the food.

As I entered my middle years, I started to become more conscious of my health, thinking about things to make sure my cholesterol and blood pressure were in check and my overall weight more optimal. This period marked a transition toward a more balanced diet and fewer processed foods. I began incorporating more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into my meals…things that were grown and not “made.

Now, my approach to a healthy diet has been further refined. I focus on nutrient-dense foods that provide maximum health benefits. This became especially important when I realized that I needed hip replacement surgery, and it became apparent to me that the food I eat affects the long-term health and wellness of my body.

As we age, our bodies change, and so do our nutritional needs. I’ve learned to adapt my diet to accommodate these changes. For instance, the need for calcium and vitamin D increases to support bone health, so I include dairy or fortified plant-based alternatives in my diet. Additionally, metabolism tends to slow down with age, so focusing on nutrient-rich foods over calorie-dense options has been important.
