Aggies Mailbag: The bet here is Jimbo Fisher hires true offensive coordinator in offseason
Considered an innovate offensive mind at previous stops, Jimbo Fisher's offense at Texas A&M hardly has been one of the nation's best during his five seasons as coach.TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Texas A&M has little chance of competing for a Southeastern Conference title this season, based on alreadya week ago but mainly because of one of the nation’s worst offenses under the misdirection of coach Jimbo Fisher.
Provided Fisher hires a competent play-caller, that is, and he focuses on his bigger-picture duties as the program’s energetic head coach. The belief in this corner is this is going to happen, and a staunch Fisher might not be given any choice in the matter. By comparison fellow SEC program Tennessee averages nearly 16 more yards per game through the air than the Aggies average in total. That’s bananas— and not in a good way.
It’s almost as if everyone at and around A&M but Fisher is aware of his offense’s many shortcomings — A&M hasn’t had close to a top-10 offense since his arrival from Florida State five years ago — but the people paying his bills are sure to remind him later this year and early in the offseason. Meantime, he continues blaming lack of “execution” for the offense’s repeated failures.
