Jimbo Fisher talked the talk with an epic verbal feud with Nick Saban this spring, but Texas A&M might not be able to back it up against No. 1 Alabama.
got into a juicy public spat
“Some people think that they’re God,” Fisher said without directly naming Saban. “Go dig into how ‘God’ did his deal, you may find out about that guy a lot of things you don’t want to know.” Texas A&M’s most recent starter Max Johnson has a bum thumb on his throwing hand. Fisher said that if Johnson is not ready, he might go with freshman Conner Weighman over veteran Haynes King, who initially won the starting job in August. The uncertainty under center is a big reason why the Aggies enter the game as 24-point underdogs, according to Caesars Sportsbook.
Even the war of words fizzled. Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey publicly reprimanded the coaches in May, admonishing the men for failing to embody the spirit of sportsmanship and cooperation. Texas A&M’s collective, dubbed “The Fund,” has continued to operate and raise money from boosters; Alabama has since launched a collective of its own, High Tide Traditions.
