The AFL has approached the author of Hawthorn’s cultural safety review to take part in the league’s investigation of how the club conducted its contentious report.
Former Richmond player Phil Egan, who led the report that largely focused on the alleged behaviour of former Hawthorn officials Alastair Clarkson, Chris Fagan and Jason Burt, confirmed to this masthead on Tuesday that AFL legal counsel Stephen Meade had contacted him to help with the probe into how the Hawks handled the review. When it emerged in February that Egan had signed a NDA, the Hawks told this masthead that while Egan could not relay the stories of the families, he could discuss the review’s “process” in general terms.close to him said the AFL’s investigation was expected to focus more on the governance and process of the club’s investigation, rather than family-specific details.
, and has not ruled out the Hawks taking legal action against the AFL if they felt any penalties were unwarranted.
