KFDM/Fox 4 has obtained a new Probable Cause Affidavit released by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office that releases witness statements and details about evidence leading to charges of murder against Cody Arnold, 21, for the killing of Katelynn Stone, 16, of Vidor. Deputies say witness statements indicate Stone was killed Saturday.
KFDM/Fox 4 has obtained a new Probable Cause Affidavit released by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office that releases witness statements and details about evidence leading to charges of murder against Cody Arnold, 21, for the killing of Katelynn Stone, 16, of Vidor.
Deputies say witness statements indicate Stone was killed Saturday. Investigators arrested Arnold on Monday and Chelsea Ann-Marie Shipp was found in Williamson County and taken into custody Thursday, also on a murder charge, and transported to the Jefferson County Jail. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. has set bonds at $1 million each. If convicted of murder, each could receive up to life in prison. According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, witness statements indicate Shipp shot Stone at the residence where Arnold was known to live, and while Arnold was there, and both planned to dispose of the body and try to conceal the crime. The affidavit states that "Cody Lee Arnold intentionally, knowingly was an accomplice in the offense of murder." According to the PC, the Sheriff's Office was made aware on Sunday, March 27 that a murder had occurred on Kolb's Corner Road. A witness reported to the Sheriff's Office that "her friend, Chelsea Shipp, told her that she had shot and killed a girl." The witness said that "Cody Arnold is a friend of Chelsea Shipp's and the girl that was killed was Cody's girlfriend." The PC states that when investigators were made aware of the killing and went to the residence on Kolb's Corner Road, Cody Arnold gave verbal consent to search the residence. A detective "entered the home and walked into Cody Arnold's bedroom and discovered a deceased human body on the bed." The detective also "observed a bullet shell casing on the pillow next to the body." Arnold was placed in handcuffs and read the Miranda Warning. "When asked, he stated the body in his bed was his girlfriend, a 16 year old female." Arnold stated that he had been hanging out with the girlfriend and Chelsea Shipp on Saturday. Arnold also said he had been using methamphetamines with Chelsea Shipp. Throughout the day, Arnold and Shipp were arguing about the girl being underage and their dating relationship, with Arnold 21-years-old and the girl only 16. During the interview, Arnold advised that the girl "was possibly pregnant, she had taken an at home test that was positive." Arnold claimed hat on the day of the murder he left the girl in his bed sleeping and went to the restroom. Arnold said when he went back into the bedroom, he observed Shipp pointing a gun at the girl as she was lying in bed, and Shipp pulled the trigger, killing her. Arnold stated that he did not report the murder to law enforcement. According to Arnold, the body "laid in his bed from Saturday, 03/26.2022 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. to Sunday 03/27/2022 at 10:15 p.m. when the Sheriff's Office arrived. "In the bedroom, a large light colored trash can was observed directly next to the body, bedside with a fresh trash bag inside. The lid was positioned next to the trash can on the floor. The trash can would have been sufficient size to conceal or transport the body." The affidavit states that on Saturday, 03/26/2022, Chelsey Shipp called and asked to borrow a friend's car. The friend left work around noon and met Shipp and Arnold in Rollover Pass where they exchanged vehicles. When the friend asked Shipp what she needed her vehicle for, Shipp responded that "she had business to take care of and would not tell her anything more." The next day at 8 a.m., Chelsea Shipp returned the vehicle to the residence at her request. It was then, according to the affidavit, that Shipp told her friend that "she had shot and killed a girl." She proceeded to tell the friend that Cody Arnold asked her to "take care of something for him." The friend said she replied "what did ya do, beat her up?" She said, "no, I shot her." The friend said she asked "where is she?" Shipp said, "Cody Arnold's supposed to take care of that." The friend said Shipp told her Cody Arnold asked Shipp to do it. According to the affidavit, the friend said when she asked Shipp where she shot and killed the girl, Shipp said she shot and killed her in Arnold's house in one of the rooms over the carpeted floor. The friend asks Shipp what she did with the body and Shipp said it was still in the room. Shipp said Cody Arnold was "freaking out" and asked her to get rid of the body for him. The affidavit states: "Based off these facts, it is believed that Cody Arnold worked in concert with Chelsea Shipp to commit a murder by going with Shipp to obtain a vehicle for potential transport of the body, and concealed the body with a trash bag, and failed to report the murder to law enforcement, and lied to law enforcement stating that he had not seen the girl since 9:00 p.m. on Saturday 03/26/2022, and about knowing the whereabouts as her body laid in his bed as he spoke to law enforcement outside his home."KFDM/Fox 4 first broke the story about the most wanted murder suspect in Jefferson County in some time.Shipp was caught and handcuffed early Thursday morning around 3:45 at a home in Liberty Hill. That's north of Austin in Williamson County.She and 21-year-old Cody Arnold are accused of gunning down 16-year-old Katelynn Nicole Stone of Vidor.We got our hands on court documents and the Probable Cause Affidavit claims Shipp confessed to others about the crime. A friend says Cody Arnold had been seeing both the 16-year-old victim, Katelynn Stone, and Chelsea Shipp.Cody Arnold admitted to investigators that Stone was shot then, according to the affidavit, and that she was 16 and quote "possibly pregnant."An acquaintance who cleaned houses with Chelsea Shipp in Crystal Beach told detectives that Chelsea said on Sunday morning, "I got rid of her.""No, I shot her," making a shooting motion with two fingers as if she were shooting a gun, spelled out in the document we obtained from the D.A.In that conversation after the shooting, Shipp allegedly pointed fingers at Cody Arnold.Destroying evidence claims as well. Another acquaintance told deputies that he was approached by Shipp, who confessed that she had a shot a girl and need help to move the body. Deputies showed up at Arnold's mobile home on Kolb's Corner in southwest Jefferson County last Sunday, March 27, and knocked on the door. He let them in. They saw Katelynn's body. Part of her body wrapped in a garage bag and the lower part was wrapped in a blanket.
