Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has warned of a looming gas shortage.

The energy regulator released new forecasts which warn the demand for gas on the east coast is likely to outstrip the supply, which could happen as early as this winter, particularly on extremely cold days.

AEMO also has its sights on big Queensland LNG exporters – it warns the government may be forced to step in and scrap export contracts within the next three years to ensure Australia has enough gas to keep the lights on.
