Greg Abbott must quickly release an overdue report on maternal mortality to prevent more pregnancy-related deaths, Democratic lawmakers and health advocates urged on Tuesday.
By law, the report was supposed to come out by Sept. 1. But the Texas Department of State Health ServicesAt a press conference at the Capitol, advocates said the delay puts them at a disadvantage heading into the legislative session becauseSome blamed Abbott, accusing the Republican of putting off release of the data until after the Nov.
Abbott’s office directed questions to the Department of State Health Services, whose leader he appoints. The new report will analyze the causes of at least 148 maternal deaths in 2019 and for the first time will examine the role discrimination plays. Nationwide, data show that
