A group of friends camping on a remote WA island have stumbled across a horrifying sea creature that will “haunt them in their sleep”. Adventurer and social media personality Cam Wild was exploring mud flats in the Pilbara region when he discovered an extremely creepy fish in a hole in the mud. In a video posted to TikTok, a big, black fish with blue eyes and sharp little teeth can be seen blankly staring at the group, appearing dead.
Another joked, “Can we keep looking to see if we can find a pair of spare underpants? “ “That was creepy, it looked like it was shrivelled up and dead.” The TikTok video gained more than five million views and the fish was confirmed to be a black jawfish. A black jawfish, scientifically known as an Opistognathus Inornatus, is a type of ray-finned fish found in coastal waters, rocky reefs and rubble areas. The fish can grow up to 55cm in length and weigh up to two kilograms.
