Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) raised more than $8.1 million for his Senate bid in a record second quarter fundraising haul.
Schiff recently became one of the only members of Congress to be censured after House Republicans moved to condemn him for “misleading the American public and for conduct unbecoming of an elected Member of the House of Representatives” in a 213-209 vote. However, this may have motivated voters to donate to the California Democrat, as evidenced by his second quarter contributions.
Further, 98% of contributions came from grassroots supporters giving less than $200. The average donation was $34. After being censured by his GOP colleagues last month, the congressman used social media, email, and text messages to campaign on the vote.
