Heidi Snow Cinader, founder of AirCraft Casualty Emotional Support Services (ACCESS), provides invaluable grief support to individuals impacted by air disasters.

Heidi Snow Cinader knows the profound pain of losing a loved one in an airplane crash. After her fiancé perished when TWA Flight 800 crashed in the Atlantic Ocean in 1996, she established an air disaster bereavement support network to aid others who endured similar tragedies. Through her nonprofit, AirCraft Casualty Emotional Support Services , or ACCESS , Cinader has been facilitating the grieving process for individuals affected by or involved in air disaster -related tragedies.

For decades, her charity has connected survivors and bereaved families of air disasters with professionally trained volunteers who have experienced comparable tragedies. When Cinader and her team of volunteers witnessed the wreckage of the American Airlines plane in the Potomac River after its collision with a Black Hawk military helicopter, it transported them back to the day their lives were 'altered in an instant,' Cinader shared with FOX Business. 'At our organization, we have the unfortunate distinction of having lost loved ones in our disasters. And all these incredible people have stepped forward over the years from general aviation, commercial, and military air crashes to truly help others navigate their grief,' Cinader stated. Many of the grief mentors now were initially those who sought help themselves. A few years after their own loss, they became eligible to attend training and transitioned into supporting others. Several volunteers reached out after Wednesday's crash, 'inquire about how they can assist and letting me know they're on call, and they're ready,' Cinader revealed. According to Cinader, these individuals are among the few who truly comprehend the agony of waiting for the cause of the crash to be determined, the anticipation of body recovery, and the overwhelming media attention. Beyond grief support, the nonprofit also guides those in crisis toward available resources. 'Through the ACCESS support system and referral services, we help individuals overcome the feelings of hopelessness, isolation, despair, and confusion that often follow an air disaster,' the website explains. 'We help minimize the risk of post-traumatic stress symptoms, long-term depression, family difficulties, or an inability to function socially or at work.' The ultimate aim is to empower people to 'gain renewed strength, hope, and purpose.' The nonprofit strives to support individuals not merely in the immediate aftermath of an air disaster but for their entire lives. This encompasses significant life events like birthdays and remarriages. Finding someone else who understands 'how to live a life for the long term' is a crucial aspect of what the organization does, Cinader emphasized. 'I recall so vividly... when I needed someone to be with me for what lay ahead,' Cinader shared
