An Ohio corrections officer was fatally shot at the Corrections Training Academy in Orient.
A corrections officer was fatally shot at the Correctional Training Academy in what state officials described as a "tragic accident." Ohio State Highway Patrol, which has jurisdiction over state properties, was notified of a fatal shooting at the tactical firing range just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The academy is near the Pickaway Correctional Institution .
An OSHP spokesperson, Lt. Ray Santiago, said the investigation is ongoing and did not release more details about the circumstances of the shooting.Chambers-Smith said Osborne was a member of the SOCF's honor guard, the special response team, and the statewide special tactics and response team. "Right now, as we speak, there are hundreds of people across the state working overtime in our prisons," Chambers-Smith testified to lawmakers last year. "There aren't a lot of people who want some of the work that we have anymore. There are even fewer who can actually do it."
