A Personal Perspective: What I learned when I approached my "holiday blahs" the same way I approached writer's block.
I don’t have the holiday blues; I have the holiday blahs. It’s a distinct difference—I’m not clinically, as I often am this time of year. But I do feel rather Grinchy about having to take on all the gift-giving, meal-planning, party-going, and general good cheer responsibilities one is expected to assume, for yet another year.
I was stuck. Paralyzed by indecision. And massively uninspired. That’s when it hit me: This feels exactly like writer’s block, a condition I’m very familiar with. After much listening and nodding, Dennis Palumbo put down his notepad, leaned forward, and spoke. “Just write a moment,” he said. That’s it. No questions about my father or mother; no delving into myAnd you know what? It was worth every penny of his fee. I went home and grabbed a moment out of myand typed it into my iPad. It wasn’t a particularly noteworthy moment, just one of the many clouds that continually pass through my brain.
