One upcoming 2026 release already looks to be a stellar Gravity Falls successor for fans who want more of the series' unique kind of world and story. The success of Gravity Falls is still considerable to this day, with the series maintaining a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and a seriously positive critical reception even years after its final episode aired.
With the series striking a fascinating balance between delving into almost horror-esque territory and being a supernatural mystery show, it's easy to come up short in terms of similar series when looking for newer releases like Gravity Falls. Fortunately for fans, though, one of the people who worked on the animated show is creating a new series that looks as though it could be a suitable successor. Clara & The Below Has Now Been Funded After A Major Kickstarter Success Clara & The Below is a dark animated series led by Gravity Falls storyboard artist and animator Matt Braly, who also directed a good portion of season 2, including the show's penultimate episode, Weirdmaggedon 2: Escape From Reality. Much akin to Gravity Falls, Clara & The Below is also set to be a story exploring a world filled with supernatural elements that is centered around some core mysteries, making it a suitable-seeming successor series for those who loved Gravity Falls to give a watch. Promisingly, Clara & The Below's episode 1 Kickstarter saw the first chapter of the show be funded in 15 minutes, with its current total sitting at $231k funded of a requested $25k. This amount reached the extension goals of funding the second episode alongside a range of other exciting additions, meaning the series seems to be in a strong position going forward for its prospective four-part planned run. The first episode is currently scheduled to release on YouTube for free on December 25, 2026, meaning the first chapter of the story will be available by the end of this year. Clara & The Below Is Set To Continue Much Of What Made Gravity Falls Work So Well Gravity Falls was set in an outwardly normal-seeming locale that steadily reveals itself to have more and more secrets, and Clara & The Below looks set to very much follow suit, with its story seeing the titular character delve into the world under her family's manor house known as the Below, which contains the spirits of the dead and other unusual creatures. Clara's journey down to the Below to try and find a cure for her ailing father also looks set to mirror Gravity Falls, wherein the story effectively revolves around the show's lead twins discovering the secrets their great uncle Stan has concealed from them their whole lives. Much in the same vein, a repeatedly alluded to part of Clara & The Below's story appears to be the titular hero learning about blood-soaked history of her beloved father, and unpacking what this means for her life and both of their futures. With this leading into the main mysteries Clara & The Below revolves around - namely, what the history of Clara's father is, how it leads to his mysterious illness, and how the Below is tied to this ailment - the upcoming series appears to hinge around some fascinating mysteries, much in the way Gravity Falls did with the matter of who wrote the journals detailing how to deal with the entities Mabel and Dipper encountered. Given Gravity Falls remains arguably one of the best animated series of all time to this day, Clara & The Below having some clear similarities to it certainly seems to bode well for the upcoming release. Hopefully, Clara & The Below's four parts will be able to capitalize on these similarities, and appeal to the same audiences who enjoyed Gravity Falls and its own animated escapades.
