Some say the Aggies, whose 2022 haul was ranked best in the nation, are lagging behind for 2023 in the wake of the coach's dust-up with Nick Saban.

The Aggies have six pledges to date in the class of 2023 and check in at No. 58 in the 247Sports.com rankings. A year ago, they had 10 pledges sliding into July but also many more holes to fill at that time than this year. Saban, who’s won seven national titles , in May told a group of Alabama business leaders A&M “bought” its top-rated class in 2022 — “A&M bought every player on their team, made a deal for name, image and likeness … we didn’t buy one player” — and a day later Fisher responded as angrily as he has as a head coach, either at Florida State or A&M.
In the time since, Alabama has been up to its usual top-notch recruiting — no one has drawn five-star talent to a program better than Saban this century — while the Aggies are lagging behind for 2023, at least for now.
