Taberon Honie’s commutation hearing is his last chance to stop his execution, which is currently set for Aug. 8.
Taberon Honie , who has been on death row for 25 years for the 1998 murder and sexual assault of his girlfriend’s mother Claudia Benn, has been ordered to be executed by lethal injection. Honie was in Fifth District Court in Cedar City, Utah on Monday, June 10, 2024.
He spoke to the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole on Monday, the first day of his commutation hearing.In less than three weeks, Honie will be killed by lethal injection, unless he can convince the board to spare him.He didn’t shy away from what he did, but he said the man who sexually assaulted and murdered his ex-girlfriend’s mother, isn’t the same man who sat in front of the five-person board.
Poignant words from a man who’s spent the last 25 years on death row, but is it enough to change the mind of the board? Lazaro said the fact the board gave Honie the hearing to begin with says a lot about his chances of getting the sentence commuted.
