A scant 8.8% of eligible voters in Dallas County went to the polls this cycle, fewer than in the past two municipal elections in 2019 and 2021 and lower thanPolitical observers suggest that turnout was brought down by a noncompetitive mayoral race, where incumbent Mayor Eric Johnson swept to victory unopposed in the county’s largest city and only citywide contest in Dallas.
Time for a reality check. Voter apathy speaks less to candidate quality and satisfaction and more to voter frustration. Name identification, a few families and friends and a political organization that can be counted on to get just enough voters to the polls is enough for incumbents to win.
