Driver killed in chain-reaction crash on Interstate 15 in North County [Breaking]
A 32-year-old driver was killed early Sunday in a chain-reaction crash that involved four vehicles on Interstate 15 in North County, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The collision occurred south of Gopher Canyon Road about 2:15 a.m. when a driver in a Dodge Challenger headed south in the fast lane of I-15 stopped, said CHP Officer Hunter Gerber. An Infinity G37, also in the fast lane, smashed into back of the Dodge. An Acura MDX then rear ended the Infinity and struck the side of a Honda CRV, which was in the No. 2 lane, Gerber said. The driver of the Dodge died in the wreckage. He was identified as a Temecula resident, but his name was not released.
The driver of the Infinity, a 47-year-old Poway man, and two passengers suffered major injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. They were expected to recover, Gerber said. The officer said alcohol or drugs were possible factors in the collision. The investigation was ongoing, and the CHP asked anyone with information to contact the state agency at 643-3400.
