This former toxic waste site in DC’s upscale Spring Valley neighborhood recently hit the market for $1.3 million. It lasted just five days before going under contract.
The fact that 4825 Glenbrook Road, Northwest—a vacant lot on a leafy street in DC’s upscale Spring Valley neighborhood—was once a World War I chemical weapons dump hasn’t fazed buyers. The 0.32-acre lot,, hit the market April 15 and lasted just five days before going under contract.
“You would be shocked at the interest I’ve had. It’s a beautiful lot and a beautiful property in a beautiful neighborhood,” says Bubes, who adds that the site has “corrected its history.”Though it’s hard to tell by looking at the land now, the site once served as a dumping ground for deadly chemical weapons, such as mustard gas, during World War I. Known as the American University Experiment Station, the military had tasked chemists at nearby labs with developing and testing chemical weapons.
