99 Cents Only is closing all stores, including five in the San Antonio area. Liquidation sales began Friday.
Discount retail chain 99 Cents Only Stores LLC is closing all 371 of its stores across California , Nevada , Arizona and Texas , including five locations in the San Antonio area. The Commerce , Calif.-based company’s interim CEO said the COVID -19 pandemic, inflation, lost inventory and customers’ changing preferences hurt 99 Cents’ bottom line. Executives tried to find options to keep the chain in business but were unable to, and they decided to begin winding down operations.
“Unfortunately, the last several years have presented significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment, including the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting consumer demand, rising levels of shrink, persistent inflationary pressures and other macroeconomic headwinds, all of which have greatly hindered the company’s ability to operate.
