Opening Ceremonies start Friday and APU is hosting a watch party. Anyone interested in attending should RSVP atare $35 for adults free for seniors and students from ASD, UAA and APU. Tickets for first responders or students not from ASD, UAA or APU are $20.The University of Alaska Fairbanks team travels to Anchorage to take on UAA for a pair of rivalry games in the Governor’s Cup. UAF currently leads this year’s Cup race 4-2 and has dominated the series going back to UAA’s last series win in the 2009-10 season.The 38th Annual Jewel Lake Jamboree is free and open to the public. There’s plenty of ice fishing, door prizes, hot chocolate and apple cider plus members of the 2026 Rondy Royalty on hand. The 2026 kickoff Bait Shack Community event series also includes Alaska Department of Fish and Game staff on-site with fishing licenses available for purchase if needed.The 11th annual expo is the largest convening of Black-owned businesses and Black professionals across the state. This year’s edition includes workshops, information about HBCUs and education opportunities, vendors, youth resources and much more. There is also an after-hours mixer and a fashion show on Sunday. Fullcommunity fundraiser benefits Anchorage youth, and while registration is free, donations help fund youth organizations and programs. Activities start at 1:30 p.m. with the race set to start at 3:30 p.m. There will be a 3K on the Mize Loop as well as a 1K Zoo Peek-a-Boo run.This Anchorage Opera production is a one-act play by composer Huang Ruo and librettist Bao-Long Chu, telling the true story of Diane Tran. Tran, an 11th grade honors student, was arrested for truancy while trying to balance school, two jobs and family responsibilities. As part of their 40th anniversary tour, this all-female Irish ensemble led by Joanie Madden is making a stop in Anchorage. Combining virtuosic playing, singing and dance, the Ladies deliver memorable performances.: Featuring Art Lab, rapid space shorts in the planetarium. Plus Alaska literary voices, Seth Kantner and Don Rearden, in conversation exploring the intersections of humor, identity and the role of writers as modern tricksters. Free admission 6-9 p.m., 625 C St.: Featuring the 8th Annual Bike Art Show including paintings, sculptures and mixed media pieces. 6-9 p.m., 530 E.
