AT least nine individuals were hospitalized following a gas leak that caused an explosion in Malate, Manila on Monday night.The city's Bureau of Fire Protection said seven casualties were brought to the Philippine General Hospital and the two others to the Ospital ng Maynila.The explosion came from a commercial establishment in Fidel Reyes St. at about 7 p.m.
'Initial reports [from BFP] said the cause of fire was [a] gas leak, which caused [an] explosion,' said FO3 Chris Pascual in a phone interview with The Manila Times.He said the fire was extinguished at 7:34 p.m.Investigators are checking the extent of the damage caused by the fire.Meanwhile, neighboring De La Salle University and its student council advised students to evacuate and seek medical attention if necessary.
